Course outline
10 modules
Orientation and Awareness Boundary
Explain qualified and unqualified roles, task-specific qualification and the difference between awareness, employer qualification, licensing and external certification. A person may be qualified for one task and not another. This course never authorizes interaction with exposed energized parts.
Electricity, Shock, and Secondary Injury
Review voltage, current, resistance, grounding and current path conceptually. Injury depends on magnitude, duration, path, contact area, frequency, environment and individual condition. Wet or conductive conditions increase risk. Secondary falls, burns, muscle contraction and delayed medical effects are included.
Arc Flash and Arc Blast
Explain how an arc can release intense heat, light, pressure, sound, molten metal and projectiles. Differentiate shock risk from arc-flash risk. Discuss fault current, clearing time, working distance, equipment condition and task interaction as factors without performing an engineering incident-energy study. DC systems and batteries are included at awareness level.
Normal Operation and Abnormal Equipment Conditions
Teach that normal operation depends on equipment being properly installed, maintained, enclosed, secured and free of evidence of impending failure under the employer's program. Abnormal heat, odor, sound, vibration, damage, missing covers, water, contamination, tripping, arcing, smoke or altered labels require stop and report. Awareness learners do not open equipment to investigate.
Deenergization and the Energy-Control Interface
Establishing an electrically safe work condition involves more than turning a switch off. Explain identification, interruption, isolation, lockout/tagout, release/control of stored energy, verification and grounding where applicable at a conceptual level. Push buttons, PLC outputs and software commands are not energy-isolating devices. Absence-of-voltage testing and reenergization verification are qualified-person responsibilities.
Boundaries, Labels, Signs, Barricades, and Access Control
Explain the conceptual purposes of limited/restricted approach and arc-flash boundaries while avoiding copyrighted tables and equipment-specific distance determinations. Labels communicate analyzed information but can be outdated, damaged or inapplicable after system change. Signs, barricades and attendants protect people but do not replace deenergization or engineering controls.
PPE, Tools, Test Instruments, and Temporary Equipment Awareness
Introduce arc-rated clothing, eye/face/head/hearing protection, voltage-rated gloves and protectors, insulated tools, shields, blankets and test instruments. Selection depends on the employer's risk assessment, task, voltage and equipment. PPE condition, ratings, inspection, storage and compatibility matter. Damaged cords, makeshift repairs, missing grounding, improper adapters and conductive ladders create hazards.
Special Environments and Employer-Specific Hazards
Cover construction temporary power, shipyard electrical machinery, wet spaces, confined spaces, overhead lines, generators, batteries, solar/DC sources, motor drives, capacitors and hazardous locations at awareness level. The applicable OSHA sector and employer program must be selected before work.
Electrical Emergency Response and Reporting
Do not touch a person who may remain energized. Deenergize through the approved emergency process when safe and authorized, call emergency services, use trained rescue methods and provide CPR/AED only within current training. Arc-flash victims may have hidden injuries. Preserve the scene, report abnormal conditions and remove damaged equipment from use through employer procedures.
Current Standards and Final Scenarios
OSHA 1910.331–335 and sector rules establish enforceable duties. NFPA 70E's 2027 edition is the current consensus framework as of this course version, but it is not itself an OSHA-issued certification. Complete scenarios involving a tripped breaker, abnormal panel, missing cover, wet cord, overhead line and battery room.
Assessment and completion
Requirements stay explicit.
Assessment plan: 50-question protected staging QA assessment; 80% plus the critical-item rule. The 50-item draft seed bank must expand to 150 independently approved items before paid release.

Is this an official OSHA or third-party certification?
No. IM Academi will identify the course provider and the exact completion outcome. It will not imply OSHA authorization, regulatory qualification, or another organization's certification unless the applicable authorization has been obtained and documented.
Does my employer still need to provide site-specific training?
Often, yes. Site hazards, procedures, equipment, emergency plans, supervision, and role authorization remain employer responsibilities. This page states course-specific boundaries but cannot replace an employer's hazard assessment.
What happens if a practical component is required?
The knowledge portion and practical evaluation are tracked separately. Final completion depends on the published course rules and a documented evaluation by an approved evaluator.
