  1. Subelement A: Rules and Regulations

    Equipment and operator requirements, watches, logs, station control, and FCC/international boundaries.

  2. Subelement B: Communications Procedures

    Bridge-to-bridge, routine calling, distress, urgency, safety, and GMDSS priorities.

  3. Subelement C: Equipment Operations

    VHF and MF/HF controls, channel and emission selection, testing, and fault recognition.

  4. Subelement D: Other Maritime Radio Equipment

    Antennas, reserve power, EPIRBs, SARTs, survival-craft VHF, and NAVTEX.

Assessment and completion

Requirements stay explicit.

Assessment plan: Protected 144-question official-pool mastery program and fresh 24-question final mock with one item from every FCC key topic. The completion benchmark is 18/24 (75%); mock results are not official FCC results.

Completion languageEligible learners receive an IM Academi Element 1 Exam Preparation Certificate of Completion. It is not an FCC Element 1 pass, PPC, Marine Radio Operator Permit, GROL, GMDSS license, Radiotelegraph Operator License, COLEM result, vessel assignment, or practical sign-off.

Frequently asked

Is this an official OSHA or third-party certification?

No. IM Academi will identify the course provider and the exact completion outcome. It will not imply OSHA authorization, regulatory qualification, or another organization's certification unless the applicable authorization has been obtained and documented.

Does my employer still need to provide site-specific training?

Often, yes. Site hazards, procedures, equipment, emergency plans, supervision, and role authorization remain employer responsibilities. This page states course-specific boundaries but cannot replace an employer's hazard assessment.

What happens if a practical component is required?

The knowledge portion and practical evaluation are tracked separately. Final completion depends on the published course rules and a documented evaluation by an approved evaluator.
