Who this is for

Intended audience

Radiotelegraph Operator License candidates and advanced marine-radio technicians preparing for the Element 6 written examination pathway.

Relevant industries: Maritime, Commercial Radio, Marine Electronics

Learning outcomes

What learners will work toward

  • Apply advanced electrical, electronic, transmitter, receiver, antenna, measurement, and radiotelegraph operating concepts represented by the controlled pool.
  • Complete and remediate all 616 controlled questions through 100 balanced objectives while keeping answer keys server-private.
  • Distinguish current FCC licensing and safe operating practice from retired Element 5 and other legacy pool terminology.
  • Complete fresh 100-question simulations and use an FCC-authorized examiner/COLEM for official credit.

Course outline

  1. Electrical and RF foundations

Maritime systems, DC/AC relationships, resonance, magnetism, components, and active devices.

  2. Audio, power, and rotating machinery

Audio stages, transformers, batteries, reserve power, supplies, motors, and generators.

  3. Transmitters, antennas, and propagation

Modulation, keying, transmission lines, antennas, propagation, and interference control.

  4. Receivers, instruments, and navigation

Receiver stages, fault isolation, measurement, direction finding, and navigation concepts.

  5. Operations and current licensing overlay

Radiotelegraph procedures, emergencies, current Part 13 scope, and a clearly labeled historical Element 5 bridge.

Assessment and completion

Requirements stay explicit.

Assessment plan: Protected 616-question pool mastery and fresh 100-question mock examinations. The completion benchmark is 75 correct (75%); mock results are not official FCC results.

Completion languageEligible learners receive an IM Academi Element 6 Exam Preparation Certificate of Completion. It is not an official FCC pass, PPC, Radiotelegraph Operator License, COLEM result, vessel assignment, or maintenance authorization.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is this an official OSHA or third-party certification?

No. IM Academi will identify the course provider and the exact completion outcome. It will not imply OSHA authorization, regulatory qualification, or another organization's certification unless the applicable authorization has been obtained and documented.

Does my employer still need to provide site-specific training?

Often, yes. Site hazards, procedures, equipment, emergency plans, supervision, and role authorization remain employer responsibilities. This page states course-specific boundaries but cannot replace an employer's hazard assessment.

What happens if a practical component is required?

The knowledge portion and practical evaluation are tracked separately. Final completion depends on the published course rules and a documented evaluation by an approved evaluator.
